Flashing Bootloaders

Page history last edited by sgscm7 12 years, 6 months ago

This is a short tutorial on how to flash Bootloaders to your device, please be very cautious, a bad flash will brick your device and you wont be able to revive it without bringing it to a service center (jtag).

As always, if something goes wrong nobody except you can be held responsible for your damage!

Prerequisites:

  • Tool for Flashing
    • Windows:
      • EZOdin Download
      • Heimdall Download (please note that Heimdall does NOT work just like Odin, and you should not use it unless you know what you are doing)
    • Linux/Mac OS X:
      • Heimdall Download (please note that Heimdall does NOT work just like Odin, and you should not use it unless you know what you are doing)
  • Desired Bootloader for Odin Download Readme by Codeworkx
  • Desired Bootloader for Heimdall Download (Thanks to dan542)
  • USB Data Cable
  • PC

The Flashing (with Odin ONLY):

IMPORTANT check md5 of downloaded bootloader against Readme (use WinMD5 or HashTab) - a bad download can kill your phone

  1. Run EZOdin
  2. Select the desired bootloader file as pda
  3. Make sure "Repartition" is unchecked
  4. Don't check "Bootloader Update", it doesn't do anything anyway.
  5. Boot your phone into download mode ( [vol-]+[home]+[power] )
  6. Connect your phone to usb port on pc
  7. Wait for "Added" to appear in the console box of EZOdin
  8. Press "Start". The process should just take a few seconds.
  9. Wait for your device to reboot
  10. Done
